Dr. Virendra Chauhan is a highly skilled nephrologist with extensive training and experience in nephrology and internal medicine. He holds several esteemed qualifications and has a distinguished career marked by significant contributions to nephrology. Dr. Chauhan completed his MBBS from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) at Shri Bhausaheb Hire Govt. Medical College, Dhule, in November 2014. He then completed his internship at Hire Govt. Medical College, Dhule, and B.J. Medical College, Pune, in February 2016. He further pursued DNB Medicine from the National Board of Examinations at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial, Central Railway Hospital, Byculla, from April 2017 to 2020. Subsequently, he completed DrNB Nephrology from the National Board of Examinations at Global Hospital (Superspecialty and Transplant Centre), Parel, Mumbai, from December 2020 to 2023.
In his professional experience, Dr. Chauhan’s training included various aspects of medicine, providing core knowledge, skills, and experience essential for a competent specialist. He worked in general medicine and various subspecialty departments such as gastroenterology, cardiology, neurology, chest medicine, infectious diseases, hematology, nephrology, and intensive care medicine.
His responsibilities involved managing critically ill patients and performing lifesaving procedures like intubations, mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, central line insertions, arterial line insertions, and catheterizations. Additionally, he performed diagnostic procedures such as lumbar puncture, pleural tapping, ascitic tapping, and bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. His dissertation topic during his training period was “Clinical and Demographic Profile of Ca Lung Patients in Tertiary Care Centre,” which was accepted by the National Board of Examinations.
During his DrNB training in Nephrology at Global Hospital, Superspecialty and Transplant Centre, Mumbai, under the guidance of Dr. Bharat Shah, Dr. Chauhan acquired proficiency in diagnosing and treating acute renal failure, chronic kidney disease, glomerular diseases, dialysis, and kidney transplantation. He also gained expertise in interventional procedures, including central venous uncuffed hemodialysis catheters, tunnelled cuffed catheters, kidney biopsies (transplant and native), and fistulograms. He conducted and cared for ABO incompatible transplants, swap transplants, and deceased donor transplants. His dissertation topic during this training period was “Risk Factors and Predictors of New Onset of Diabetes Mellitus After Transplantation,” which was accepted by the National Board of Examinations.
Dr. Chauhan’s dedication to nephrology and his numerous contributions to medical literature and clinical practice have earned him several honors and awards, including the Best Poster Award at ISNCON 2021 in Chennai and ISNCON 2022 in Pune. He has published several notable works, including “An Outbreak of Pneumocystis Jirovecii Pneumonia among Kidney Transplant Recipients” in the Indian Journal of Nephrology (2022), and contributed to research papers on infections post kidney transplant in Kidney International Reports (2022). Additionally, he authored a chapter titled “Chapter 38: Diuretics in Hypertension” in the book “Manual of Hypertension” by BA Murugunathan.
